Refrigerator repair at your home
A fridge that stops cooling puts a week of groceries at risk. Our technicians repair kitchen and garage refrigerators in Round Rock homes. The service call and diagnosis are free when you go ahead with the repair.
These are the four fridge complaints we hear most. Each one lists the parts that usually cause it and a safe check you can do before the technician arrives.
A new hum, buzz or rattle usually means a moving part is wearing out or something is touching it.
The fan behind the freezer panel can rub on ice or wear its bearings, which gives a squeal that gets louder when you open the freezer door.
Dust and pet hair on the coils make the condenser fan and compressor run longer and louder. Garage fridges in Texas summers clog up fast.
Rubber mounts under the compressor go hard with age, so vibration carries into the cabinet as a rattle or a deep hum.
Quick checkMake sure the fridge isn't touching the wall or the cabinets, then listen at the freezer and at the bottom rear so you can tell us where the noise comes from.
Where the water shows up tells us a lot about which part is failing.
Food bits and ice block the drain at the back of the freezer, and meltwater overflows under the crisper drawers or onto the floor.
On models with ice and water, a cracked or weak valve at the back can drip every time it opens.
The pan under the fridge collects defrost water so it can evaporate. If it cracks, water spreads out from under the front.
Quick checkLook for ice on the freezer floor near the back wall, and check whether the puddle starts at the front or behind the fridge.
Frozen lettuce and slushy milk mean the fresh-food side is getting too much cold air.
This sensor tells the control how cold the cabinet is. When it reads wrong, the fridge keeps cooling past the setting.
The damper lets cold air in from the freezer. If it sticks open, the top shelf near the vent freezes.
A failing relay on the board can keep the compressor and fans running when they should rest.
Quick checkCheck that the temperature dial hasn't been bumped colder, and keep food a few inches away from the air vent.
The freezer makes the cold air for both sides, so a warm fridge with a cold freezer usually means the airflow between them has stopped.
When the defrost system fails, ice builds on the coil until no air can pass through to the fridge side.
Packed shelves or a box pushed against the vent cut off the cold air that feeds the fresh-food section.
If the fan stops, the freezer may still hold temperature while the fridge side slowly warms up.
Quick checkClear anything sitting in front of the vents, then press the freezer door switch and listen for the fan.
